Euro Remains Under Pressure
The euro (EUR) dropped to a two year low falling to 1.2515 from 1.2619 against the US dollar as uncertainty in the market grows. The single currency is under pressure as investors are worried about a problematic banking sector in the eurozone and a messy Greek exit from the euro. Economic figures from Germany further weighed on sentiment after German manufacturing data was weaker than expected. Failure by EU leaders to take decisive steps to tackle the eurozone debt crisis has curbed risk appetite, while growth in the region appears to be deteriorating. Against the Swiss franc, the single currency spiked higher to 1.2075 on rumors that the Swiss National Bank will impose a tax on deposits.

Greek Exit Fears Weigh, Gold Bounces Epically
The euro (EUR) dropped to a 22-month low falling to 1.2545 from 1.2686 against the US dollar on a heightened risk aversion in the markets. Concerns that Greece may face a damaging default and a messy exit from the eurozone weighed on the single currency after talks said that Eurogroup was asked to prepare a Greek exit plan. Wednesday’s informal EU summit did little to restore sentiment in the market after it showed no progress on how EU leaders are planning to tackle the eurozone debt crisis but all agreed on the importance that Greece stays in the euro. France pushed a proposal of joint eurozone bonds, which can help with funding difficulties for some heavily-indebted eurozone countries but that policy is rejected by Germany.

Japan Policy On Hold, Eyes On BoE Minutes
The euro (EUR) dropped near a 21-month low falling to 1.2645 from 1.2814 against the US dollar as risk aversion dominates the markets. Comments from former Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos raised concerns after he said that Greece has two options, stick to a painful austerity program or face a damaging default and a messy exit from the eurozone. Focus now turns to today’s informal EU summit where France is expected to push a proposal of joint eurozone bonds. The idea of joint bonds can help with funding difficulties for some heavily-indebted eurozone countries but that policy has been rejected by Germany before. EU leaders are also expected to focus more on growth and ways to help Greece stay in the euro.

Euro Rebounds, Focus On The UK Inflation
The euro (EUR) edged higher to 1.2824 rebounding from 1.2724 against the US dollar on hopes that EU leaders will agree on steps to fight the debt crisis in Europe. Investors expect the French President Francois Hollande to suggest joint eurozone bonds at the EU meeting in Brussels on May 23. The idea of joint bonds can help with funding difficulties for some heavily-indebted eurozone countries but that policy has been rejected by Germany before. EU leaders are also expected to focus more on growth and ways to help Greece stay in the euro. The single currency remains under pressure as the market is worried about Spain’s growing financial problems as well as developments in Greece ahead of a repeat election in June.

EUR Resumes Bearish Trend
After steadily gaining on the dollar and yen yesterday in overnight trading, the euro once again turned bearish during the European session. Renewed concerns regarding the political situation in Greece triggered the bearish correction. Still, the common currency was able to avoid dropping to the four-month low hit last week. Turning to today, traders will want to pay attention to a batch of British and US economic indicators. Both the British CPI and Public Sector Net Borrowing figures are forecasted to come in well below last month's figures. If true, the GBP could take losses during mid-day trading. Later in the day, analysts are predicting that the US Existing Home Sales figure will show improvements in the American Real Estate sector. If true, the dollar could move up as a result.

Euro rebound stalls, focus shifts to EU summit
(Reuters) - The euro's rebound from four-month lows stalled on Tuesday, failing to break above technical resistance, though traders said selling could be limited at least until an informal meeting of European leaders this week.
Traders have been reducing their massive bets against the common currency in the past couple of days, taking note of prospects - however slender - that EU leaders may agree measures to bolster investor confidence in the euro zone on Wednesday.
With speculators' short positions on the euro at a record high, traders were wary of the potential for short-squeeze, despite worries about stability of the banking system in Spain and political gridlock in Greece.
"If someone is selling the euro now, I would rather use that as a chance to take profits (from euro short ...

SunBirdFX Daily Market Analysis : 05/21/2012

The bearish momentum in Wall Street continued last week as indices shed 4%-5% during the week. The sharp declines were expected from the technical analysis point of view, since the main indices broke significant support in their daily charts, which we have analyzed and marked as key levels. The S&P 500 broke the support at 1350 points and reached the target we set at 1300 points, mainly because of the collapse of the financial sector. The volumes are increasing, which means that the sellers are gaining power, in spite improving economic data and the optimism that spread with Facebook trading on Friday. The three main indices are close to the annual opening levels as NASDAQ's next support is at 2400 points.

Facebook IPO Fails to Make a Dent in the Marketplace
Following weeks of speculation regarding how Facebook's debut on the New York Stock Exchange would turn out, investors were mildly disappointed with the social media site's performance on Friday night. Facebook closed out the week at 37.96, slightly below its opening price. What direction Facebook takes from here is a hotly debated topic among market analysts. Some are warning that the site may be overvalued already, and Friday's disappointing performance could be a sign of things to come. That being said, any moves by Facebook to expand its already massive subscribership could generate excitement in the marketplace which could help boost the value of this site.

Euro Rebounds But Still Under Pressure
The euro (EUR) edged higher to 1.2812 rebounding from a four-month low at 1.2641 against the US dollar. The single currency tumbled on Friday on concerns over Greece’s political uncertainty as well as growing instability in the Spanish banking sector. European leaders of G8 met during the weekend to discuss steps needed to fight Europe’s debt crisis and reaffirmed the importance that Greece remains in the eurozone. G8 leaders also focused on ways to stimulate eurozone growth but no detailed plans on how to resolve the problems were announced. But the single currency remains under pressure as investors are worried about a messy Greek default and exit from the euro ahead of a repeat election in June 17.
