Intervention To Weaken The YenTitle:
Is Facebook Weighing on the Euro or is the Euro Weighing on Facebook?
It has been a lacklustre day post the G8 meeting at the weekend (yawn), the drop in Mark Zuckerberg's net worth seems to be more of a talking point than the continuing Eurozone crisis. But, the Eurozone banking index gives it all away. Bankia, Santander and the usual Spanish suspects all turned lower as we headed into London's lunchtime, which dragged the overall European banking sector down to its lowest level since November 2011. Within a matter of hours EURUSD followed suit and is making fresh lows of the day at 1.2730 (at the time of writing).
Official EU disappointment
Although a temporary bottom may be in place at 1.2624 in EURUSD, the G8 summit highlighted a couple of things that remain negative for the single currency: 1, how divided the Eurozone (and the world) is about how to ...

Euro Rebounds But Still Under Pressure
The euro (EUR) edged higher to 1.2812 rebounding from a four-month low at 1.2641 against the US dollar. The single currency tumbled on Friday on concerns over Greece’s political uncertainty as well as growing instability in the Spanish banking sector. European leaders of G8 met during the weekend to discuss steps needed to fight Europe’s debt crisis and reaffirmed the importance that Greece remains in the eurozone. G8 leaders also focused on ways to stimulate eurozone growth but no detailed plans on how to resolve the problems were announced. But the single currency remains under pressure as investors are worried about a messy Greek default and exit from the euro ahead of a repeat election in June 17.

Markets Hold Ground, Awaiting Central Banks to Move
Taking a general look at markets before the end of this week, we can see that the bearishness started to lose momentum as traders are speculating now what tools Central Banks might provide to revive the slowing pace of recovery, especially the European Central Bank amid the current political instability in Greece, the confirmed recession in Spain and Italy and the deepening debt crisis.
Moreover, investors are still worried and concerned regarding the general trend in markets, where after the Federal Reserve reassured that a slowing recovery in the U.S. might trigger another round of quantitative easing, volatility dominated markets as predicting the coming moves became highly uncertain as Politicians failed to calm markets and the fueled debt crisis, leaving policymakers with a difficult ...

EUR/USD Testing Key Support
Sunrise Market Commentary
- Fixed Income: new contract highs
- London-traders returned and the market seemed to react with a lag to this weekend's election results. In a risk off session, both the German Bund Future and the US Note Future set new contract highs, respectively at 142.62 and 133-04.
- Currencies EUR/USD testing key support
- On Tuesday, sentiment on the euro remained fragile even as there was little news from the political scene in France or Greece. EUR/USD is again testing the key 1.2974/55 support area. A break below this level would be highly significant from a technical point of view.
The Sunrise Headlines
- US Equities dropped sharply lower yesterday, but reversed most of their losses in the final hours of trading. The S&P ended the session 0.43% lower. ...

Awful EMU PMI Data Hit The Euro
Sunrise Market Commentary
- Fixed Income: German yields set record lows
- Depressing April PMI's and unemployment data in the EMU set the tone for a risk off session. Core bonds surged higher and the German Bund future reached a new record high. In the US session, US equities rebounded and triggered profit taking in US treasuries. German bonds stayed near the highs however.
- Currencies: Awful EMU PMI data hit the euro
- The focus in currency trading shifted from the US to Europe. On Tuesday, EUR/USD declined due to dollar strength in the wake of the ISM release. On Wednesday, an awful set of EMU data triggered a next selling wave. EUR/GBP continues to set new lows, too. We doubt that the Draghi press conference will be able to change the course of events

Dollar softer, but euro fails get a boost
(Reuters) - The dollar briefly fell to a two-month low against a basket of currencies on Monday, hurt by signs that the U.S. economic recovery was losing momentum, which keeps alive the chances of further monetary easing by the Federal Reserve.
Despite the dollar's problems, the euro failed to gain much traction, with investors looking to sell at higher levels as harsh austerity measures take a toll on economic activity across the region.
Spain slipped back into recession as gross domestic product shrank 0.3 percent in the January to March quarter, data showed on Monday. Traders were likely to be wary of the euro ahead of the second round of the French presidential vote as well as elections for a new Greek parliament next weekend.

Dollar hits two-month low as U.S. economic momentum slows
(Reuters) - The dollar fell to a two-month low against a basket of currencies on Monday, weighed down after modest first quarter growth in the U.S. economy kept alive chances of further monetary easing by the Federal Reserve.
The dollar is likely to come under more pressure if data, including U.S. jobs numbers, this week disappoints. U.S. growth cooled in the first quarter partly due to businesses cutting back on investments, reinforcing the central bank's contention that interest rates should be kept near zero through 2014.
The slowdown fuelled speculation that the Fed may eventually launch another bond buying program, or a third round of quantitative easing. That would likely have a negative effect on the dollar while giving riskier assets like stocks, commodities and higher-yielding ...

EUR/USD Ignored The S&P Downgrade Of Spain
Sunrise Market Commentary : 30/04/2012
- Fixed Income: new highs for Bund Future (141.38) and US Note Future (132-17)
- Core bonds set new contract highs on Friday after the Spanish rating downgrade. However, sentiment changed in the European session and led to return action. Today, trading will be thin ahead of tomorrow's Labour Day Holiday in most of Europe. Main items this week will be the ECB meeting (Thursday) and the US payrolls (Friday).
- Currencies: EUR/USD ignored the S&P downgrade of Spain.
- On Friday morning, the focus on the European markets was on the S&P downgrade of Spain. However, the reaction developed in a very orderly way. EUR/USD reversed the early losses and the dollar lost further ground after the weaker than expected US GDP. USD/JPY is testing the key ...
