Gold drops on worries ahead of EU summit
Gold dropped on Wednesday early trading as investors remained worried that today’s informal EU summit would not come out with solutions to ease debt crisis amid possible frictions among European leaders.
The main spotlight today will be on the EU summit that will tackle euro area fiscal problems, where probably the meeting would show disagreement between Germany and France over introducing Eurobonds.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday she will not be shy to reject Hollande`s idea of introducing Eurobonds to continue its rejection to the common bonds idea which is also favored by Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and peripheral countries.
Thus, with the debt crisis intensifying gold is predicted to face more downside pressure after losing its safe-have characteristic for the ...

European markets single lower, while eyes are on the EU summit
The tension is evident as the sell-off wave swept the currency market including high yielding currencies, and the European stock futures are back once again to trade lower before the opening today.

Investors will be focusing today on the European summit held in Brussels with Greece being the main theme in addition to Spain`s Budget deficit.
The euro drooped from the opining levels that were near the highest levels reached today at $1.2687 and is currently trading at $1.2664. The EUR/USD reached the lowest level today at $1.2643 while it opened at $1.2643.

USD Moves Up vs. JPY Following Japanese Credit Downgrade
The JPY took losses against the US dollar during European trading yesterday, following a downgrade of Japan's credit rating. The USD/JPY advanced close to 60 pips over the course of the day, eventually peaking at 79.93. Today, dollar traders will want to pay attention to US New Home Sales figure, set to be released at 14:00 GMT. Analysts are forecasting the figure to show improvements in the US real estate sector, which if true, could help the greenback extend yesterday's gains. In addition to the news out of the US, traders will want to pay attention to any announcements out of the euro-zone. An informal meeting of euro-zone leaders is set to conclude today. Any signs of a new strategy to combat the region's debt crisis could lead to market volatility.

Asian stocks driven lower by downgrades in China, Japan ahead of EU summit
Ahead of a meeting of European leaders, the MSCI Asia Pacific Index dropped 1.5% at 12:31 in Tokyo after investors lost their appetite for risk after they were spooked by the mounting worries over Greece exiting the eurozone, while BoJ held its monetary policy unchanged although growth is slowing.
Greece’s former Prime Minister Lucas Papademos said yesterday that while it is unlikely that the nation will leave the eurozone, the risks are still high. And if this would prove to be the case, other countries may follow, warned Jin Liqun, chairman of China Investment Corp.
Meanwhile, one day after Fitch cut the Japan’s rating by one notch to A-plus from AA with negative outlook, citing “high and rising public debt” burden, Japan showed a slowdown in its exports during April, adding to ...

Gold slumps on skepticism of EU meeting
(Reuters) - Gold eased on Wednesday extending sharp losses made in the previous session as investors were skeptical that an informal European Union meeting later in the day would yield steps to help solve the region's debt crisis.
Gold fell to as low as $1,555.03 an ounce earlier in the day, its lowest level in nearly a week, tracking a weaker euro as investors fretted about the possibility of a Greek exit and its implications for the global economy.
Investors will be watching the outcome from the EU summit, but confidence is on the wane since Germany and France are likely to confront each other on the idea of mutualized European debt.
"Can it solve the debt crisis? No," said Dick Poon, manager of precious metals at Heraeus in Hong Kong, "Everyone is worried about Greece withdrawing ...

Although Informal, Eyes Are Still On EU Summit As Euro Sinks
The tension is gripping markets still with the uncertainty over the stability in Europe and expectations for a Greek euro exit. The common currency is still trading sharply lower as hope dims ahead of the informal EU summit in Brussels today, where previous hopes for any action evaporated as Germany confirmed that its stance did not drastically change!
Investors are still pushing the euro lower amid fear that Greece might be forced to default and exit the euro after the inclusive May 06 elections confirmed the wide rejection to the deep austerity measures. The market still sees high risks that the June 17 election might bring anti-austerity parties into the lead that will opt against austerity and refuse the bailout terms as Syriza did and that will cost Greece its membership.
