Euro Stall On Greece

Title: Global stocks, euro slip on weakening growth
(Reuters) - U.S. stocks and the euro edged lower on Thursday as data suggested Europe's debt woes were spreading and worsening a global economic slowdown. In a volatile session, investors looking for bargains earlier bought equities, oil and gold which have been battered this week by worries Greece would leave the euro zone. But the buying of growth-oriented assets faded as worries about the euro zone's drag on the world economy returned. Stocks and other riskier assets turned negative as disappointing data from Europe, China and the United States compounded concerns about the economic contraction moving across Europe. Amid speculation of more coordinated efforts from major central banks to stem further deterioration of the euro zone debt crisis, bond yields of Spanish, Italian and ...

Title: EUR/USD Cedes The 1.2624 Support
Sunrise Market Commentary - Fixed Income: Risk off pushes German bond yields to new lows - Risk off sentiment pushed core bonds higher and non-core bond yield spreads re-widened substantially. The Summit didn't bring new information, but another hole found in Spain's regions' budgets might get attention today. - Currencies EUR/USD cedes the 1.2624 support - On Wednesday, the EMU debt crisis was again omnipresent. Markets feared that the EU leaders wouldn't be able to take decisive action to address the debt crisis. Extreme risk aversion pushed EUR/USD to a new low for 2012. The losses of EUR/GBP were more contained, as poor UK retail sales and rather soft BoE minutes kept the door open for more policy stimulation. The Sunrise Headlines - In the final hour of trading, US ...

Title: European Manufacturing And Services Resume Contraction Amid Worries Of A Greek Exit From The Euro Ar
European manufacturing and services showed contraction in May, adding to concerns the economy is heading towards a recession in the second quarter amid the escalating European debt crisis. Euro area manufacturing and services remained to record contraction in May as manufacturing posted 45.0 from 45.9 in April while services reported 46.5 from 46.9. Accordingly, the PMI composite index came in at 45.9 from 46.7. The reading in Germany showed a drop in PMI manufacturing to 45.0 this month, the lowest in 35 months, from 46.2 in April. In France, the manufacturing gauge slipped to 44.4 in May from 46.9 a month earlier. On the other hand, German services lingered at 52.2 while French services index was unchanged at 45.2. In fact, the 0.5% expansion recorded by the German economy saved the ...

Title: Euro stuck near 22-month low on Greek exit worry
(Reuters) - The euro hovered just above its 22-month low against the dollar on Thursday and remained vulnerable to further declines as the prospect of a Greek exit from the euro zone kept investors on tenterhooks. The euro eased 0.1 percent to $1.2575. It fell to about $1.2545 the previous day, its lowest level since July 2010. That level should provide initial support, followed by $1.2500. The euro drew little comfort from an informal summit of European Union leaders that shed no new light on how the euro zone nations intend to tackle its debt crisis, including the threat of Greece's exit from euro. "It's still hard to see what the endgame will be like," said a trader at a Japanese bank in Tokyo. European Union leaders urged Greece to stay the course on austerity and complete the ...

Title: Dukascopy Afternoon Forex Overview : 23/05/2012
Fundamental Analysis EUR German bunds rose on worries that European leaders will struggle to resolve the euro zone debt crisis during tonight's European summit. David Schnautz of Commerzbank AG in London thinks that Europe is unlikely to solve key topics and will probably disappoint the market. The 5-year bund lost 5 bp to 0.47 percent at 10:49 GMT after tumbling to 0.461 percent, the lowest since 1990, when Bloomberg began gathering data. USD Crude oil futures declined in Asian session on Wednesday as Iran is ready to invite nuclear inspectors, the move that may ease oil import sanctions. Light, sweet crude oil futures for July delivery traded at 91.27 US Dollars per barrel, retreating by 0.63% from the last session's high of 91.72 US Dollars per barrel. GBP Today the minutes of the ...

Title: IMF says Greece has to do more to remain in the euro area
International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing director Christine Lagarde said on Wednesday Greece has to do more to remain in the euro area, revealing that "It had a long way to go, it has made efforts but they have more to do, more structural reforms to do." They still need bailout installments to trim the huge budget shortfall so they have to confront with their strict spending cuts in return, Lagarde said. Also, she highlighted that Greek people must pay the price to remain in the euro area as Greeks are showing their strong belonging to the euro bloc while rejecting austerity measures in the last elections; the thing described by Lagarde as "inconsistency."

Title: The Endgame of the Greek Crisis
Forex News and Events: It has taken two-and-a-half years, and nearly USD 300bn of IMF/EU funds for markets to finally weigh in a more probable than not exit of the debt-laden country. Greece’s EMU exit is imminent for the second time in the last six months. Surprisingly though, the trigger for the recent gloomy expectations for Greece was not exclusively of an economic nature but also politics. During May 6 elections, the Greeks expressed their unwillingness to abide by the agreed-upon austerity measures. It wouldn’t have been a very dangerous position had Greece been solvent, but regardless of EU officials’ reassurance of continued help for Greece throughout the process, the country would run out of funds for the next installments due end of June and early July. In addition to markets ...

Title: Gold stalls below $1,600/oz; EU summit eyed
(Reuters) - Gold inched lower on Tuesday after failing to break above $1,600 an ounce, as investors await a European Union summit later in the week at which leaders will try to agree on action to solve the region's debt crisis. Gold made attempts to break above the key resistance level at $1,600 in the past two days but failed, and has since been drifting around $1,590 as investors remained cautious when the fate of Greece and euro zone remains in limbo. Market participants will closely watch an informal EU summit on Wednesday, during which French President Francois Hollande is expected to push for mutualised European debt, an idea that Germany has opposed. Equities extended gains, partly riding on optimism about fresh action at the Wednesday meeting, but some analysts were less ...

Title: Euro rebound stalls, focus shifts to EU summit
(Reuters) - The euro's rebound from four-month lows stalled on Tuesday, failing to break above technical resistance, though traders said selling could be limited at least until an informal meeting of European leaders this week. Traders have been reducing their massive bets against the common currency in the past couple of days, taking note of prospects - however slender - that EU leaders may agree measures to bolster investor confidence in the euro zone on Wednesday. With speculators' short positions on the euro at a record high, traders were wary of the potential for short-squeeze, despite worries about stability of the banking system in Spain and political gridlock in Greece. "If someone is selling the euro now, I would rather use that as a chance to take profits (from euro short ...
