Title: Euro Can’t Maintain Gains in Forex Trading
Earlier, the euro showed signs of fight as it headed higher against the US dollar. Now, though, the euro can’t maintain gains in Forex trading and is headed lower. Worries about the eurozone, and what’s next for the currency region, are causing doubt, and uncertainty means that Forex traders are looking for safety — and safety can’t be found in the euro right now. After seeing some earlier gains and breaking back up through the 1.2600 level against the US dollar, euro is once again lower. The 17-nation currency has been unable to hold onto gains briefly enjoyed in the wake of positive economic data out of the United States. Now that optimism is gone, and traders are left with concerns about what’s next for the eurozone. Investors are so seeking safety that they just bought 4.6 billion ...

Title: EU Data Deteriorates
The euro remained under pressure against most of the majors after disappointing economic data and as the EU summit concluded without giving markets any indication of significant progress. European leaders debated the topic of eurobonds and whether or not it would contribute to growth. Germany remaining firmly opposed to the joint bonds saying that it would give countries with already large deficits incentive to continue to spend. Economic data out of Europe added to the deterioration in sentiment as German, French, and Eurozone May PMI figures printed below expectations. Manufacturing PMI's in Germany, France, and the EZ fell to 44.4 (cons. 47.0), 45.0 (cons. 46.8), and 45.0 (cons. 46.0) respectively. The below 50 readings indicated ongoing contractions in manufacturing. Furthermore, ...

Title: Gold prices rise 1 percent as dollar retreats
(Reuters) - Gold rose 1 percent on Thursday, snapping three days of losses to climb towards $1,580 an ounce, as the dollar swung back into negative territory versus the euro after a softer-than-expected U.S. manufacturing report. Confidence in the single currency remains fragile after it earlier hit a near two-year low against the dollar. Dire German manufacturing and business climate data spooked investors already weighing up the risk of Greece leaving the euro zone. But gold got a lift from International Monetary Fund data showing another rise in central bank gold holdings in April, after the largest purchase in over four years by the Philippines. Spot gold rose as high as $1,577.50 an ounce and was up 0.8 percent to $1,573.11 an ounce by 9:50 a.m. EDT (1350 GMT), while U.S. gold ...

Title: Oil climbs above $106 as Iran talks stall
(Reuters) - Brent crude oil rose above $106 a barrel on Thursday as reports of a hiccup in talks with Iran over its nuclear program balanced weak economic data from China and Europe. Iran accused world powers on Thursday of creating "a difficult atmosphere" that hindered negotiations on its atomic energy program, signaling a snag in diplomacy to defuse fears of an Iranian attempt to develop nuclear bombs. Brent futures rose 90 cents to trade at $106.46 by 1336 GMT after earlier touching a high of $106.90 before weak Chinese and European economic data sparked a bout of selling. U.S. crude for July rose $1.44 to a high of $91.34 after settling at $89.90 a barrel on Wednesday, its lowest close for front-month U.S. crude since October 21. Investors are worried that failure to agree a deal ...

Title: Better Data Boosts Risk Appetite, Sending US Dollar Lower
US dollar is moving lower right now, thanks to improved risk appetite. Most of that risk appetite is coming from enthusiasm over better data in the United States. Improvements to the US economy are helping high beta currencies, even after continued disappointment in Europe and China. Good news in the United States is providing a boost to high beta currencies, and sending the US dollar lower, as risk appetite returns to the markets. Jobless claims in the United States fell to 370,000 last week, dropping by 2,000. Additionally, there was a rise in US durable good orders of 0.2% for April. This good news is providing some relief from all of the bad news coming out of Europe. The sovereign debt crisis continues to dominate in the eurozone as European Union leaders look for a way for Greece ...

Title: A dead cat bounce?
After a bunch of creepy economic figures starting from the euro zone manufacturing and services numbers which showed the sectors extended contraction last month and confidence among business within germany dropped to 106.9 from 109.4, that was followed by the GDP figure from the U.K which confirmed further contraction as the country’s economy contracted more than expected. While from the U.S; core durable goods orders dropped by 0.6% while markets were expecting a 1.1% expansion. Although the overall picture remains clearly uncertain, however markets were well supported after being extensively oversold today, rebounding slightly this morning, and currently extending the recovery after the Greek central bank chief said that Greece’s four largest banks are to be recapitalized by an 18 ...

Title: Gold edges up as euro cuts losses
(Reuters) - Gold rose on Thursday, after three days of losses, although the drag of the euro near two-year lows tempered the bullion price and eclipsed data that showed another rise in central bank purchases of the metal last month. The euro edged higher, having hit a near two-year low against the dollar earlier on Thursday after dire German economic data suggested no country in the region was immune from crisis, spooking investors already weighing the risk of Greece leaving the euro zone. This offset a potentially bullish lift from International Monetary Fund data that showed another rise in central bank holdings in April, after the largest purchase in over four years by the Philippines and further additions by the likes of Mexico, Ukraine and Russia to their reserves. Spot gold rose 0. ...

Title: Weaker euro zone economy sends dollar higher
(Reuters) - The U.S. dollar climbed to a 20-month high and safe-haven German bonds set record low yields, after data showed Europe's economic woes intensifying as business confidence is undercut by talk of a Greek exit and slow progress in tackling the debt crisis. Private-sector factory activity in China also faltered in May as demand for exports fell, in a worrying sign the impact of the euro zone crisis could be undermining the global economic recovery. Europe is China's largest export market. But U.S. stock index futures have edged higher as investors remain hopeful that pending data on durable goods orders and initial jobless claims will show the world's largest economy is staying on track for recovery. The slowdown in economic activity in Europe's powerhouse Germany sent the euro ...
