Analysis: World wheat bounty at risk as dry spell spooks market
(Reuters) - A damaging global dry spell is wilting wheat crops in Kansas, threatening exports from Russia and slowing sowing in Australia, serving a timely reminder to hedge funds that a new era of surplus grain is far from assured.
In their biggest surge since 1996, Chicago wheat prices jumped by more than 17 percent last week and reached a nearly 9-month high of more than $7 a bushel on Monday, a rally stoked by short-covering among big speculators -- a group that had amassed a near-record short position betting on falling prices.
By Tuesday, six days of buying subsided as analysts said the immediate weather-induced panic yielded to a more considered view: conditions are not as dire - at least not yet - as they were in 2010, when world trade in wheat was sharply curtailed as growing ...

EUR/USD Rebound On Profit Taking
Sunrise Market Commentary
- Fixed Income: limited profit taking on core bond markets
- Global core bond markets fell prey to some profit taking in a thin, dull trading session. However, given the strength of equities, bond losses were very limited and occurred at the onset of trading. Today, the eco calendar remains thin and the profit taking might go some further in the run-up to tomorrow's informal EU Summit.
- Currencies EUR/USD rebound on profit taking
- The correction in EUR/USD was prolonged, but the euro gains were modest and mostly technical in nature. The UK inflation report is the eye-catcher of the day as it may influence sterling. However, overall trading might again be thin ahead of tomorrow's euro Summit.

- US Equities rose for a second ...

Oil up on positive German data
Brent crude oil edged up on Tuesday on as the euro zone narrowly avoided recession and as better-than-forecast German first-quarter GDP data raised hopes that Germany would steer the way through the European debt crisis.
The euro zone economy stagnated with zero growth, the EU's statistics office Eurostat said on Tuesday, going against expectations of a recession.
The results were more positive than forecast, boosting riskier assets, and counterbalancing Greek political woes and a strengthening dollar. However, analysts believe the downward trend will ultimately prevail.
Brent crude rose by 53 cents to $112.10 a barrel by 1454 GMT and erasing the previous session's losses, when prices slid to $110.04, the lowest intraday price since January 25.
U.S. crude fell 3 cents to $94.75 a ...

Oil rises as euro zone avoids recession
Brent crude oil futures gained on Tuesday, as the euro zone narrowly avoided recession and as better-than-forecast German first quarter GDP data raised hopes that Germany will steer the way through the European debt crisis.
The euro zone economy stagnated, with zero growth, the EU's statistics office Eurostat said on Tuesday.
The results were more positive than forecast, boosting riskier assets, but the region's debt crisis has sapped the life out of the French and Italian economies and widened a split with paymaster Germany.
Brent crude rebounded from earlier losses, rising by 30 cents to $111.87 a barrel by 05:34 a.m. EDT (0934 GMT) after sliding to $110.04 on Monday, its lowest intraday price since January 25.

Euro area growth stalls in the first quarter amid uncertainty surrounding the region`s outlook
Euro zone data released today showed that euro area growth stalled in the first quarter, amid the undergoing political uncertainty and fiscal woes.
The GDP advanced reading for the first quarter showed a flat reading, following the 0.2% drop in the last quarter of 2011. On the year, the reading also came flat compared to the prior 0.3% drop.
In fact, the reading beat expectations of seeing 0.3% contraction on the quarterly basis, probably boosted by the better-than-expected advance in the German reading which recorded 0.5% expansion.
In France, the growth path stalled in the first quarter from a revised of 0.1% which was 0.2% initially.
Although there is improvement in the region`s largest economy, yet it seems that Germany is moving solely as other euro area nations are ...

EUR/GBP Testing 80.00 Barrier, As BoE Stops Printing Press
Sunrise Market Commentary
- Fixed Income: Largely uneventful session for core bonds
- Core bonds had an insignificant, technical and sentiment-driven session that left bond yields slightly higher in the close. Overnight, negative headline news on JP Morgan and Greece triggered a moderately strong opening of the Bund. Europe will be in the focus today with the publication of the Spanish banking plan and the EU spring forecasts.
- Currencies: EUR/GBP testing 80.00 barrier, as BoE stops printing press
