Appetite On The Euro Dollar

Title: Dukascopy Afternoon Forex Overview : 22/05/2012
Fundamental Analysis EUR Gold extended previous gains in Asian session on Tuesday as concerns over Greek exit from the single currency union eased. At G8 summit leaders of eighth largest economies stated that they would do everything possible to retain Greece in the Euro Zone. COMEX gold June contract traded at 1,592.35 US Dollars per troy ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange, advancing by 0.23%. USD The US Senate has passed a bill aimed at tightening sanctions imposed on Iran to force the country to cease its nuclear program. The new sanctions imply investigation of role of Iran's Revolutionary Guard in oil exports as well as obliging the US companies to disclose any business activities with Iranian partners. The move came ahead of negotiations between Iran and six major ...

Title: Inertia Will Sink The Euro Again
The G8 Summit achieved very little in public which was no real surprise, but there was also an apparent lack of urgency surrounding the Euro-zone situation which was a much greater surprise given a sharp deterioration in the financial sector last week. Where was the urgency for fresh action to help support the Euro banking sector? The absence must surely indicate that Euro-zone and G8 leaders, while paying lip-service to the current strategy, have effectively moved on and are actively planning the next stage of the crisis. Fear is likely to dominate in the short term and this is likely to keep strong defensive demand for the dollar and yen. In these circumstances, there is no real chance of a sustained Euro rally with 2012 lows likely to be seen. Bond markets will be watched very closely ...

Title: Risk Appetite, Better Situation Help UK Pound
UK pound is being helped on two fronts today. General risk appetite, with the focus on the Facebook IPO, is helping the sterling against the US dollar. On the other hand, pound is higher against the euro, as concerns about what’s happening in the eurozone make the pound a preferred choice as a European safe haven currency. Right now, pound is gaining against the US dollar as some disappointing news (including the unemployment claims data released this week) provides a foundation for risk appetite. Also providing a foundation for risk appetite is the Facebook IPO. Equities are responding well to the excitement of one of the biggest IPOs of all time, and that is helping the pound. Against the euro, pound is gaining in large part because it’s not the euro. With Moody’s unleashing downgrades ...

Title: Gold rises 1 percent, eyes weekly gain, as euro recovers
Gold prices rose more than 1 percent on Friday, building on the previous session's hefty gains, as a recovery in the euro prompted some buying of the precious metal, with shorts covering amid expectations prices could rise further. Gold posted its biggest one-day gain since January 25 on Thursday, recovering some ground lost during its longest run of losses in five months. Its reversal has put it on track to end the week 0.4 percent higher. Spot gold was up 1 percent at $1,589.16 an ounce at 1148 GMT, having earlier touched a high of $1,594.10, while U.S. gold futures for June delivery were up $14.40 an ounce at $1,589.30. The euro recovered from a four-month lows against the dollar to move into positive territory, taking some pressure off gold, though concerns over a Greek euro exit ...

Title: US Dollar Lower as Risk Appetite Makes an Appearance
US dollar is lower today as risk appetite makes an appearance in the markets. As commodity prices rise, and equities see a bit of a reprieve from recent troubles, the greenback is pulling back. Concerns about Europe remain, but they are being trumped by other news — especially the imminent Facebook IPO. In less than hour, the Facebook IPO will be launched, and that is the focus today. Equities are expected to be in favor today, and commodities are doing reasonably well. Also weighing on the US dollar is some speculation that the Federal Reserve will introduce more economic stimulus. With disappointing factory data, and with a jobs market (unemployment claims remained flat this week) that continues to show little improvement, concerns about the US economy remain. Quantitative easing is ...

Title: Euro at four month low against dollar as crisis spins
The euro hit a four-month low against the dollar and 3-1/2 month trough versus the yen on Friday as concerns about a chaotic Greek exit from the euro zone and instability in the Spanish banking system fuelled demand for safer currencies. Investors were reluctant to buy riskier assets after Moody's cut the credit ratings of 16 Spanish banks on Thursday. Fellow ratings agency Fitch downgraded Greece deeper into junk territory. The euro tumbled to $1.2642, within sight its 2012 low of $1.2624. It has shed 4.1 percent against the dollar so far in May, while demand for the highly liquid dollar pushed it up 0.3 percent against a basket of currency .DXY on the day to a four-month peak of 81.758. Against the yen, the euro fell to 100.219 yen, its lowest level since early February. Many ...

Title: Global shares slide amid fears for Spanish banks, growth
Asian shares tumbled on Friday and were set for their worst weekly showing since September, amid political turmoil in Greece and signs of growing instability in Spanish banks, with investors adding the latest weak U.S. data to the list of risk factors. Assets across the board, from commodities such as oil and gold to riskier currencies such as the euro and the Australian dollar were all heading for their weekly losses. Financial stocks were hammered after the head of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ.AX) said volatile conditions in global markets have caused the wholesale funding market for Australian banks to freeze again, a worrying echo of the global financial crisis. European shares were also set to fall, with financial spreadbetters predicting that major European markets ...

Title: Euro pauses descent, but vulnerable to fresh falls
The euro held above a four-month low on Thursday, taking a breather from a sharp sell-off, although gains are likely to be checked by worries about the solvency of some Greek banks that are adding to fears the country may exit the euro zone. The common currency was trading at $1.2724, up 0.1 percent on the day, though not far from a four-month low at $1.2681 hit the day before, with stops cited below $1.2680. The euro has already shed 3.9 percent in May, coming close to its 2012 trough of $1.2624 reached in mid-January. Contagion fears and jitters over political turmoil in Athens, where politicians rejecting harsh austerity measures are likely to win June 17 elections, have sent riskier assets such as the Australian dollar sharply lower over the past three weeks. Dealing another blow to ...

Title: Global shares recover a bit, though fear on Greece remains
Asian shares on Thursday recovered a bit of the ground lost in the previous day's sell-off, but investors found no reason to bet on risk amid deepening turmoil in Greece and fears of contagion to other stressed euro zone economies. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS rose 0.5 percent on short covering, after sliding more than 3 percent - its biggest one-day drop in six months - on Wednesday. The index hit a new 4-month low on Wednesday, and has shed 9.6 percent since May 2. Gold and the euro recovered from Wednesday's lows as a recovery in shares helped improve sentiment slightly. Bucking the general trend of recovery in Asia-Pacific, Australian shares .AXJO bucked the general recovery, falling 0.6 percent to a four-month low, with banks easing on ...
