Brent rises toward $108, China stimulus hopes aid
(Reuters) - Brent crude rose towards $108 per barrel on Monday, recovering from a 2012 low, on hopes China could take steps to stimulate growth and lift fuel demand at the world's second largest oil user, although concerns about the euro zone crisis capped gains.
China's premier called for additional efforts to support growth on Sunday, while Goldman Sachs said world oil demand was growing despite recent weak economic data. The comments proved to be a bright spot for oil markets, battered in the past weeks by fears Greece's political turmoil could spread to other countries in Europe.
Brent crude rose for the first time in four sessions, adding 68 cents to $107.82 a barrel by 0620 GMT. Front-month prices slipped to a 2012 low on Friday. In the last three weeks, Brent has shed almost 11 ...

The Weekly Bottom Line : 19/05/2012
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
United States
- Global economic concerns ratcheted up this week. Widespread discussion of a Greek exit continued, Spanish banks faced rating downgrades and periphery sovereign debt yields moved higher.
- Financial markets have responded to these global worries with increased risk aversion. The S&P is poised to end the week 3% lower, and 10-year treasuries are yielding just 1.7%.
- U.S. economic data has proved somewhat more encouraging, but growth is still struggling to breakout beyond a moderate pace. This has kept the possibility of additional monetary stimulus alive even if the threshold remains quite high.
Canada
- Recent economic indicators are showing a resurgence of strength in the Canadian economy. Strong ...

Fitch Downgrades Greece, Moody`s Cuts Spanish Banks, Eyes on G8
As this week has come to an end, negativity seems to be deepening in markets, where the sentiment continued to deteriorate after Fitch downgraded the Greek credit rating by one notch, while Moody`s cut the ranking of 16 Spanish banks, the thing that sent European main equities to 2012 fresh lows, while weighing sharply on the European common currency ahead of the G8 summit today.
Fitch Ratings downgraded the credit ranking of Greece by one notch to CCC from B- on concerns the nation might have to leave the one-currency bloc amid the current political instability and the split over the second bailout deal and the austerity associated with this financial aid provided by International Lenders.
The rating agency clarified that the Greek inability to form a government had raised concerns ...

Consolidation Continues Post The Spanish Bond Auction
Consolidation Continues Post The Spanish Bond Auction
The big event of the morning was the Spanish bond auction, however it failed to generate anything more than an immediate ripple in the FX market. The auction raised just below the top of its target amount of EU2.5bn, at EU 2.49bn. Although demand was strong, Madrid had to pay up to attract investors to its debt. The yield on the 2015 debt it sold jumped to 4.375% vs. 2.89% at an auction in April, the 2016 debt sold with a yield of 4.876% vs. 4.037% at an auction earlier this month.
Will Germany soften its stance?
In the aftermath, EURUSD is down about 20 pips but it remains above 1.27, while Spanish bond yields have actually fallen. The consolidation period in the market may continue as we lead up to the G8 summit in the US this ...

World stocks ease, euro at 4-month low on Greece woes
World stocks dropped and the euro fell to a four-month low against the dollar on Tuesday after Greece said it would hold new elections and worries increased about its possible exit from the euro zone.
Gold touched a 4-1/2-month low, with the euro's weakness unnerving investors over the profitability of holding euro-denominated assets.
The political turmoil in Greece kept pressure on markets. Investors have been concerned that long-lasting problems in the euro zone and a likely recession will hit global growth.
