Ranges of Andrews, sometimes called the method of midlines, is a graphical tool used to analyze the strength of trends, levels of support and resistance. This tool was developed by Alan Andrews Hall and is used on graphics-Bar or Candlestick Charts.
Method of calculation
The drawn of Andrew’s ranges is based on three pivot points:
1. A first pivot top (or bottom)
2. The following pivot opposite, so low (or high)
3. The following pivot opposite, so high (or low)
Example

The choice of pivot points is fundamental and must be based on significant market reversals.
The basic figure consists of three parallel lines drawn as follows:
- ML: traced from the first pivot and passes through the medium point of the following two pivots.
- MLH: traced from the second pivot and parallel to ML
- MLH: traced from the third pivot and parallel to ML
Depending on the analysis, additional tracing lines RL (for Reaction Line) can also be taken into account.
Interpretation
MLH lines and RL are importants levels of support and resistance.
